Six militants killed in air base operation amid India-Pakistan tension
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged his Pakistani counterpart to take “firm and immediate action” against those behind an attack on an Indian air base near the country’s border with Pakistan. The assault came just days after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a surprise visit to Lahore to meet Pakistani leader Nawaz Sharif. Seven security personnel, one civilian and six militants were killed, authorities said.
National Investigation Agency (NIA) is questioning Gurdaspur SP Salwinder Singh, his friend Rajesh Verma and the cook in connection with the Pathankot terror attack case.
Silent Modi it seems has let #Modiplomacy do the talking leaving little wriggle room for Pakistan on the Pathankot Attack.
An official statement said Modi got a call Tuesday afternoon from Sharif “regarding the terrorist attack on the Pathankot air base”.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is believed to be making a statement on the official position once the combing and sanitising operations at the Pathankot air base is completely over. “Let them collect all the information”, he said. He added, “We didn’t compromise on security”.
India’s Press Information Bureau said Pakistan had provided “specific and actionable” information on the attack. “He is aware that the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan had a phone conversation today to discuss this issue”, Mr Ban’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told reporters in United Nations today.
On Saturday evening, the government had declared victory against the terrorists, but the announcement was premature: two more terrorists were discovered and the operation continued for a further 40 hours.
He was based in Pathankot and was supposedly being paid for for the information that he passed on to the Pakistani woman, Meena Raina.
“I see some gaps in the operations”, Parrikar said. Pathankot though saw involvement of highly trained terrorists attacking a military installation, leading to speculation that the engagement after all did not have the backing of the Army.
According to Parrikar, the terrorists were carrying 40-50 kg of bullets, mortars, modified under-barrel grenade launchers besides some magazines.
He said barring one building where the terrorists took shelter, no other building was even damaged because the security personnel cornered the raiders in a corner of the base.
