Lions hire Bob Quinn away from Patriots to be GM
The Lions found Quinn after hiring Ernie Accorsi – the former Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns and New York Giants general manager – as a consultant in late November.
Wood, who replaced Tom Lewand soon after he was sacked two months ago, has said the next GM will decide who coaches the team in 2016.
The Detroit Lions announced Friday an agreement to hire New England Patriots director of pro scouting Bob Quinn as their general manager.
Since Quinn joined the Patriots in 2000, they are 21-8 in the postseason, including a 4-2 mark in the Super Bowl.
Quinn eventually worked his way up through the franchise’s scouting department before becoming the director of pro scouting in 2012.
The Lions have been looking for a GM since firing Martin Mayhew midway through the season.
“Bob’s done a good job with us, been with us for a long time and had a number of different responsibilities in the scouting department: pro, college, advanced”, Belichick said.
Sheldon White was promoted to interim GM for the remainder of the 2015 season, but Quinn will take over after contract details are ironed out, according to reports.
When the Lions hired Wood, they said they wanted a general manager who had been with a winning organization.
A Norwood, Mass., native, Quinn has been in the Patriots’ organization since 2000 and has spent his entire career in the New England area. Star wide receiver Calvin Johnson is reportedly considering retirement after nine seasons in the league. From that moment, team owner Martha Ford outlined a plan for her search and found her candidate Friday.
