National Hockey League names remaining 40 All-Stars for 3-on-3 tournament
The 2016 NHL All-Star won’t be played until Sunday, January 31 in Nashville, but the league released the rosters for the annual event on Wednesday afternoon and, as expected, each team will have some pretty dominant star power.
The Florida Panthers and Washington Capitals each have three players and a coach going to the new All-Star 3-on-3 tournament this month in Nashville, Tennessee. Despite a recent turnaround, Crosby has played arguably the worst season of his 11-year National Hockey League career, recording only 12 goals and 19 assists in 38 games.
Faulk leads the Hurricanes in scoring with 30 points (14g, 16a) in 40 games this season.
In order to create competition and put emphasis on the new three-on-three overtime format, the league has four teams representing the four divisions. The fact the Predators had Weber and Josi chosen and Winnipeg needed a representative, leading to Byfuglien’s addition, will mean no appearance for Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk.
Barry Trotz, head coach of the team, also will participate.
Alex Ovechkin will captain the Metropolitan Division and Patrick Kane leads the Central division squad. He is the first Blues forward to be selected for back-to-back All-Star games since Pavol Demitra in 1999 and 2000. He’s fourth overall in assists, and besides being the team’s top playmaker (and one of the best playmakers in the league this season), he’s been the Jets most consistently effective offensive threat. The numbers for the on-ice versions of the All-Star jerseys also will have the same reflective material as the crest.
Atlantic Division: Patrice Bergeron (Boston), Jaromir Jagr (Florida), Leo Komarov (Toronto), Dylan Larkin (Detroit), Ryan O’Reilly (Buffalo), Steve Stamkos (Tampa Bay), Aaron Ekblad (Florida), Erik Karlsson (Ottawa), P.K. Subban (Montreal), Ben Bishop (Tampa Bay), Roberto Luongo (Florida). Former Sharks forward John Scott was already elected by fans as the captain of the Pacific Division team.
