Samsung Brings E-Commerce to the Refrigerator
“The 2016 line-up of Smart TVs will offer consumers new possibilities and cement Samsung’s market leading position, as the first company to launch IoT-ready TVs.” said Hyun Suk Kim, president of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.
Besides allowing you to search the Web for recipes, the Family Hub fridge also comes equipped with speakers for you to listen to your favorite music while cooking.
Probably the most innovative features in the fridge had nothing to do with the LCD screen.
The Family Hub also has a camera inside that can be used to see what you have without opening the door. Samsung’s new Family Hub Fridge is a smart refrigator with an interactive screen that lets you directly order groceries. Samsung has not unveiled anything about its price, but has promised to start shipping of Family Hub in the spring. We’ve been pretty quiet on SmartThings until now, but Samsung revealed today that the standard is now adopted by some 20,000 developers and around 200 devices.
Internet of Things is certainly a top contender for flavour of the season at CES 2016.
The firm has high hopes for the fridge: “Samsung has reinvigorated the home appliance space with fresh thinking and functionality that have taken appliances from a “need” to a “want”, said Herrington.
The app will automatically suggest items for consumers to buy based on shopping histories and grocery lists.
The Consumer Electronics Show served as a venue for Samsung to unveil the most innovative refrigerator around.
The whole family can write notes, post photos (even a selfie or two taken with the refrigerator camera), share calendars and even craft artwork right on the refrigerator’s touchscreen, or using their smartphone if they are away. The fridge’s USP is its 21.5-inch display in the door. There are also plans to add Instacart compatibility, allowing users in certain cities to have their groceries delivered directly to them. There’s also Bluetooth within the Fridge so you can connect other speakers around the house. If we’re to believe the official pictures provided by Samsung – and what reason have we not to – the cooler is most likely to be powered by Android operating system.
