Holly Holm’s first UFC title defense won’t be against Ronda Rousey
The UFC Women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm may take on another opponent before her rematch with former title holder, Ronda Rousey.
Holm, 34, knocked out Rousey (12-1) in the second round of a 135-pound championship fight on November 14, handing Rousey her first loss.
As for Ronda, Dana discussed her future as well by noting that she will be back in the octagon this year. But UFC president Dana White, who previously insisted that Holm’s next fight will be a July 9 rematch against Rousey, backtracked from that statement, according to The Los Angeles Times. Rousey is taking time out to shoot a number of movie projects and will not fight again until the return bout.
Saturday Night Live is still on their holiday break until next week, but news is coming out the show’s upcoming hosts.
In the meantime, UFC wants to give another fighter the chance at Holm’s crown. She’ll get what she wanted. “She’s dedicated the last 3+ years to working hard fighting + promoting…she will fight this year”.
And while her next fight is a mystery for now, her manager, Lenny Fresquez, recently told FOX Sports that her next fight could be announced as early as this week.
“That’s a fair guess”, Holm said of Tate during her interview.
But this week, Holm signed a multi-fight, multimillion-dollar contract extension with the UFC, and an official close to those talks said an interim fight for Holm was possible. “Rousey-Holm II will be big under any circumstance, but it would have the potential to be record-setting if Holm goes in as the undefeated champion”. I don’t see a point in reliving the moment when a part of my loved one died, when I saw someone I cared about have her soul crushed.
