Aaron Sorkin to Make Directorial Debut with Hollywood Poker Ring Film

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sorkin will be crafting a screenplay and make his directorial debut for Sony with a project based on the intriguing 2014 biography, Molly’s Game: From Hollywood’s Elite to Wall Street’s Billionaire Boy’s Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker by Molly Bloom. The film reunites Sorkin with his Steve Jobs producer, Mark Gordon, while Amy Pascal is also set to produce. Her life took a hard left turn after she was rejected from the U.S. Olympic team and moved to Los Angeles. The book by Molly Bloom chronicles how the athlete and a law student wound up running an exclusive high-stakes Hollywood poker game, with players including Ben Affleck and Tobey Maguire…and, unbeknownst to her, members of the Russian mafia. The project is on the fast track and the casting process is expected to get underway soon.
Sorkin is one of Hollywood’s best-known writers.
