VR Takes Off In 2016, PlayStation VR Sells 1.9 Million
Even though a lot of news is about the Oculus Rift this week, Sony doesn’t want you to forget about the PlayStation VR headset. This, unfortunately, hasn’t happened, but analysts from SuperData Research have released their own analysis of the virtual reality market, with a big focus on the PSVR possible price and more.
Each Oculus Rift headset ships with copies of Lucky’s Tale and Eve: Valkyrie, as well as an Xbox One controller, sensor and Oculus Remote, and is sure to convert many console players into PC users.
PlayStation VR is coming this year but Sony continue to stay tight-lipped about a launch date or price.
That being said, modern virtual reality will always have its roots in gaming. And then there’s Sony: with over 35 million PlayStation 4 units sold, now is the flawless time to launch a console-exclusive headset.
Pre-orders for the Oculus Rift went live yesterday and have already sold out.
Sony may also have a sizable advantage in terms of software over Oculus as more and more games from major companies have been announced for the PlayStation VR headset including Psychonauts: In the Rhombus of Ruin, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, Tekken 7, and Gran Turismo Sport.
The PlayStation VR may very well cost considerably more than your trusty PS4.
PlayStation VR is out in the first half of 2016, and according to Sony CEO Kaz Hirai, there should be a large selection of games to play on the tech.
“I think the fact that we have more than 200 developers signed up to the PlayStation VR programme who are working on probably about 100 or more titles is a testament to the kind of support we’re getting from the content creation community, so I think that it’ll be a great product.” .
