PlayStation VR Has “100 or More Titles” in Development, Says Kaz Hirai
You will part with $599 to get yourself a Rift device, a price that is far higher than what was initially promised.
Frank Azor, Alienware founder, has said on Thursday that the company will offer an Oculus Rift and Alienware X51 gaming desktop bundle at a discounted price to customers. If you’re interested in trying virtual reality, PlayStation VR suddenly looks a lot more welcoming in the shadow of a $600 rival.
However, it’s possible Sony may consider the PlayStation VR akin to a handheld console launch due to its reliance upon the PS4. We’ll have to see how this goes.
“I knew some people at Sony working on VR before I even started my Kickstarter campaign actually, and we brought them in early on to show them what we were working on, to talk about what the minimum standards were for a good VR experience”. However, it’s not yet clear if these titles will debut this year.
Sony is keeping schtum about the final price, so it’s unclear whether the £550 price tag is a leak, or a blunder by someone at Amazon.
Sony has given its first indication of PlayStation VR/Project Morpheus’ asking price. With an Alienware VR capable PC, you can be among the first to experience the future of gaming with a system ready to take you to the next level.
While it’s not the precise figure we hoped for, it’s the most information we’ve ever had about the cost of the device. The PlayStation 4 retailed for £349 when released, while the PlayStation Vita set early adopters back around £180.
In all likelihood, the price is probably a placeholder for when PlayStation does eventually announce the price that was accidentally pushed out before it was meant to.
An Alienware X51 computer that will work with Oculus costs at least $1,199. So what’s Sony waiting for?
