Yays and nays as Donald Trump comes to Burlington
Even as Barack Obama touted the supposed benefits of gun control during a CNN-hosted town hall event Thursday night, Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump shared an altogether opposing viewpoint with an enthusiastic Vermont crowd.
A lot of the people who stood around in the cold, Trump supporters waiting to get in and opponents holding picket signs, said the rally had kind of a circus feel. He said that campaigns remove people from events “all the time” whom they do not wish to have attend.
Trump suggested that security staffers confiscate protesters’ coats as they were escorted out.
“Yeah, don’t give him his coat”. With 20,000 tickets issued I wanted to be here early to make sure I got in. Dwinell said he appreciates that Trump is a self-made man. A businessman. Sanders, Vermonts independent senator who is seeking the Democratic Partys nomination for president, issued a fundraising plea to his own supporters Thursday that plays on Trumps visit. Keep his coat! Confiscate his coat! “Tell him we’ll mail it to him in a couple of weeks”.
If you need proof that Bernie Sanders is the Democratic candidate to beat in the primaries, you have it. Donald Trump just campaigned in Vermont. Those who said yes were allowed in; those who said no were turned away.
Security quickly removed the protester from the event. Im a Donald Trump supporter, Billado said.
Later, after the majority of Bernie Sanders supporters left the theater, Trump asked “Are there any remnants?”
Interestingly, some conservatives oppose this, because they think it will centralize power too much with the Senate leadership, i.e. Mitch McConnell. I don’t see how Congress could change such policies, and, in any event, the president certainly can’t override state law by executive order.
I think in some ways Donald Trump is a creation of the Republican establishment’s unwillingness to accept this new world.
“Get ’em out”, Trump said after the second interruption.
Trump alternately bragged that he would make America so great people would be bored with his successes and aggressively ordered security to kick out hecklers who interrupted him more than a dozen times.
Sanders first tweet of the night came in direct response to Trump commenting during his Burlington rally that he would “love” to run against the progressive. That Hillary Clinton is the candidate of the past and as you know, George, in any election people want to vote future and not the past and if they can do that, the republicans can do that to the Clintons then they’re going to be a leg up in the general election next year.
“And I have to also say – and I don’t like saying this about people, you know there are people who disagree with me that I respect, there are conservatives that I regard as friends”, he added. Trump yelled from the stage.
Katina Cummings said she was prevented from entering the Flynn when she said she didn’t support Trump.
At first, Trump seemed to embrace the disruptions, taking them as a badge of honor. “But this guy, I have to say, really is a pathological liar”.
