Earl Thomas may not be ready for Seahawks’ first game – Seattle
Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas continues to recover from offseason surgery for a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Thomas is not only not expected to be cleared for Seattle’s training camp this month, his status for the team’s season opener is also now in doubt, according to Ed Werder of ESPN.
The Seahawks open up the regular season against the Rams at 10 a.m. Sunday, September 13 on Q13 FOX.
Everybody knows that the Seattle Seahawks’ decision to pass the football from the 1-yard line in the final minute of Super Bowl XLIX was a bad one. Thomas has never missed a game in his five year career and I am sure, does not plan to miss one now. “I will find out more when I get back to Seattle on [July] 30th when I take my physical”. All of them would represent a major drop-off from a healthy Thomas. The Seahawk’s brass has said that they will be patient with Thomas’s recovery and want to make sure the best version of himself is on the field come game day. He played the entire second half with what was then diagnosed as a dislocated shoulder.
Cornerback Richard Sherman played with a elbow injury in the Super Bowl but avoided surgery.
After reports surfaced in February that Thomas would be ready for the start of the season, the feeling was that the Seahawks and Thomas had dodged a bullet and would be in good shape.
He was the Hawks’ second first-round pick in the 2010 draft, the first under Carroll and GM John Schneider, selected 14th overall. He had 97 tackles, three forced fumbles and an interception in 2014.
