Arrest made after Space Coast mosque vandalized
Last month, wrapped bacon was left on the door handle of the Masjid-e-Tawheed mosque in Las Vegas, and a pig’s head was thrown from a pickup truck near the Al-Aqsa Islamic Society in Philadelphia on December 6, according to CAIR.
Officers in the city of Titusville said 35-year-old Michael Scott Wolfe was taken into custody Monday.
JANUARY 5-Police have arrested a man who allegedly vandalized a Florida mosque on New Year’s Day, an attack that included the placement of raw bacon on the building’s front door.
Consumption of pork and products made from pork is strictly forbidden in Islam.
Titusville Police detectives said they are analyzing the surveillance footage as well as investigating strong leads. “Over 40 years that we’ve been here, we’ve never seen anything like this”.
The accused vandal is now being held at Florida’s Brevard County Jail on $2,000 bail. “They know we don’t consume pork”.
It is yet unclear whether Wolfe will face hate crime charges, which would mean a stiffer penalty if a conviction is reached. “This is something that those who are Islamophobic tend to bring up or use”.
The mosque is located at 1011 S. Washington Ave. The man whipped out a machete from a bag and used it to shatter several windows, lights and cameras, authorities said. Musri went on to say that the damage is easily repairable but the psychological damage will linger for the congregation.
