Alex Ovechkin voted a captain for NHL All-Star Game
Kane finished first among all players in the Central Division voting, while Jagr, who will turn 44 in February, topped the Atlantic, the league said in a news release on Saturday. Scott has one assist in 11 games this year.
Fans voted from December 1 to January 1 to determine the four All-Star captains who will lead their respective divisions into the new three-game, three-on-three tournament format.
To add to the controversy, Scott has been waived three different times this season by the Coyotes, posing the question of if he will even be eligible for the All-Star game.
The coach of the team with the highest points percentage (points earned divided by total possible points) in each of the four divisions through games of Saturday, Jan. 9, the halfway point of the regular season, will coach the All-Stars.
Scott, who will captain the Pacific Division team, benefitted from a ballot stuffing campaign by Coyote fans in what critics say makes a mockery of the NHL’s decision to allow fans to vote for players. Arizona Coyotes??three times this season, he has spent time in the AHL, and he has has appeared in only 11 games for??the Coyotes.
The other three captains were not surprising. Scott has recorded just five goals and six assists in his nine-season National Hockey League career while also racking up 542 career penalty minutes.
