Flint-area sheriff delivers water filters to residents
The sheriff says, “We have babies that are getting brain damage”.
The Detroit Free Press reports Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha found blood-lead levels in kids living in Flint had doubled in recent years.
Activist and documentary film maker Michael Moore has taken on his new cause in Flint, Michigan over the toxic levels of lead which have been leached into the Flint water supply.
About 200 Flint residents rallied outside City Hall on Friday, many of them calling for Governor Snyder to resign or face criminal charges over the poisoned water scandal. Every agency involved in this scheme reported directly to you. Meanwhile, Flint’s residents are advised not to drink the tap water. The water had high salt content and was piped without treatment into homes and offices.
“My children’s lead levels have been normal and I haven’t experienced any illnesses, which is mainly due to not using the water I have available.”
Residents complained about dirty looking water, with a bad smell, and bad taste. The level of lead is still very high.
Mayor Karen Weaver welcomed the news that federal prosecutors were investigating Flint’s water crisis, saying Tuesday “people need to be held accountable”.
The US Justice Department this week launched an investigation into the handling of the crisis which has seen in a sharp spike in lead poisoning among Flint’s children.
Snyder eventually sought $6 million from the state legislature to cover the cost of reconnecting Flint to Detroit’s water supply and the switch was completed in October.
According to Weaver, the costs for treating and repairing Flint’s water distribution system will likely be $1.5 billion, which some protesters believe was the possible reason why Governor Snyder hesitated with action.
