Marilyn Monroe – The Legacy Lives On!

The Hollywood icon and classic beauty Marilyn Monroe topped the calendar icon race along with Australian singer Kylie Minogue.

The late beauty and 46 year old Minogue successfully left behind the younger celebrities in the race of top calendar icon. 23-year-old Sam Faiers (former Towie lingerie model )and 27-year-old ‘Apprentice’ actress lost  to the two icons. Glenn McWhinney of Calendar UK said “Marilyn Monroe is one of the world’s original pin-ups. And Kylie has been a favorite for over 30 years. I guess you could say that class really does retain its appeal. Perhaps we will see Michelle Keegan still going strong in 2024.”

Marilyn Monroe and her Impact on Hollywood

Monroe tops the calendar list, despite of being dead. The Hollywood actress known as the world’s original pin-ups, has maintained her reputation and going strong as calendar icon, even after 52 years post her death. It is difficult for other stars to replace Marilyn Monroe as pin-ups.

Monroe (original name:  Norma Jeane Mortenson) was born on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. Marilyn began her Hollywood journey modeling as a nameless pin-up girl waiting for the “big break”. An American actress, model, and singer, Monroe became a symbol of hot and appealing beauty. She starred in a string of commercially successful Hollywood movies in the 1950s and early 1960s. During her Hollywood career, Marilyn Monroe’s films grossed over $200 million. She died of a drug overdose on August 5, 1962, at the tender age of 36 years.

Today, more than a half a century later (August 5, 2012 marked the 50th anniversary of Monroe’s death); the world is still in awe of her timeless beauty and extraordinary talent. It is amusing to see how Golden oldies Marilyn Monroe and Kylie Minogue are keeping the young talent behind in the top calendar wars.
