Bournemouth close in on Benik Afobe
Ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup third-round visit by now-Premier Keague Bournemouth, Rowett admits THAT result hastened his arrival from League Two Burton.
“I think he will bring pace, strength and, hopefully, goals”.
The fee surpasses the Cherries’ previous record fee, the £8m paid for Ipswich Town defender Tyrone Mings last summer.
A host of strikers have been linked with Bournemouth, but boss Eddie Howe has opted to move for former Arsenal youngster Afobe.
Afobe joined Wolves from Arsenal for £2m a year ago and has scored 23 goals in 48 games for the club.
Howe added: “і haven’t receіved anythіng yet to say why they made the decіsіon they dіd so і wіll be waіtіng for that and іnterested to see what they say”.
“We’re very pleased to have got through”.
“They are a totally dіfferent team, Gary (Rowett) has come іn and done a superb job and і thіnk that was one of the last games before Gary came іn”. He has 10 in 27 outings this season for the Championship side.
Bournemouth are looking to bolster their squad in the current transfer window and have reportedly offered £10m to sign the prolific hitman.
Afobe was left out of the Wolves side for their FA Cup encounter against West Ham United this afternoon.
Howe has already captured Roma’s Argentine winger Juan Iturbe on a loan deal which will run to the end of the season. “Finding those forwards who make a difference is a tough thing, that’s why you have to work hard to keep them”.
