DeAngelo Williams out Saturday, could play next weekend
Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams reportedly will not play this Saturday due to a foot injury.
Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams (34) is tackled by Baltimore Ravens linebacker Za’Darius Smith (90) during the fourth quarter at M&T Bank Stadium.
Fitzgerald Toussaint and Jordan Todman will fill in for Williams, who may be available later in the playoffs if Pittsburgh advances. A foot injury suffered in Week 17 has kept Williams out of practice all week. Although Fitzgerald Toussaint is expected to start Saturday, Todman should earn his first offensive snap since Week 12 at Seattle.
“Not having Bell in there kind of hurt the guys and we didn’t come as prepared as we should have”, Gilbert said. It’s unlikely either back will force the Bengals to alter their defensive game plan, but they could be able to take advantage if the Bengals game plan focuses exclusively on the pass.
Both injuries should have significant impacts on this game, but with Big Ben and Antonio Brown still healthy there is certainly a big advantage for the Pittsburgh Steelers heading into this game, as the rookie-McCarron has yet to play a single snap in the postseason. His 11 touchdowns were tied for most in the NFL. Watt was a unanimous pick at defensive end for this season’s team, as was Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson.
McCARRON’S BIG MOMENT: McCarron hasn’t thrown an interception in his three starts in Dalton’s place, leading the Bengals to a 2-1 mark. That appeared to be a major loss as Bell has been one of, if not the NFL’s best running back since last season, but Williams has done a great job picking up right where Bell left off.
READY TO RUN?: A year ago, the Steelers entered the playoffs without their top running back.
“I think we’ve got guys that have stepped up all year and don’t see why this should be any different, whether it’s Todman, Fitz, Will Johnson”, Roethlisberger said. “Whether Andy is the backup or where he is, we’ll know down the line”.
