Klopp gives verdict on disappointing Liverpool draw
An injury hit Liverpool side will take on League Two Exeter City at St James Park tonight in the third round of the FA Cup. They have to be in a hard situation in their actual club.
FC’s Craig Burley says it’s unfortunate that Klopp has to replay Exeter in FA Cup considering their injury problems.
“It’s a compromise between how much you risk, but we can play with no fear”.
“It was really hard on the pitch but Exeter did really well”, he added.
Klopp selected a side that had 17 changes from the League Cup semifinal victory at Stoke on Tuesday against a side 76 places beneath them. “It’s what’s made us playing through these winter months – playing when it’s extremely wet, the cold and on different types of pitches”, Thompson said. You saw the players of Exeter and that is surprising that in a few one-on-one situations they were more robust than our guys so we have to work on that. They won for sure too many easy flick-ons, so we have to work on this.
Midfielder Holmes, who scored the second goal from a corner, said: “We’ve been working all week on those corners – put it in the mixer and right on top of keeper Adam Bogdan”.
“Both goals were really unlucky for us, the first goal was their first offensive situation and the second one, yeah, ok…” “The BBC showed it live, the full package, spectacular!” I can’t believe we have to play another game now. You should ask Klopp if he wants me at Liverpool.
But, despite that poor defensive effort, Klopp’s incredibly inexperienced line-up, featuring three debutants and just two players – Enrique and Christian Benteke – with more than four appearances for the club, had started relatively confidently and required just three minutes to equalise.
“We didn’t park the bus and I think we gave it a real go and we’ve now got a trip to Anfield”.
“We tried to create a line-up under time pressure – [some loan players] came back yesterday and we trained together yesterday and this morning for around 40 minutes”.
Liverpool, who have never lost in the FA Cup to a side from the fourth rung of English football, were level three minutes later when teenage striker Jerome Sinclair took advantage of hesitant defending to fire the ball home.
“[They didn’t play] as good as they can, but it was good enough for a draw”.
But Liverpool did manage to cancel out that goal when 21-year-old Australian Brad Smith found the net with 18 minutes to go which ultimately leads to a replay at Anfield. Like I said, it helps if you know where you can play your football.
