Adam Gase could be hired by Miami Dolphins on Saturday
He was offensive coordinator of the Broncos record-setting offense in 2013 and 2014.
Gase joined the Bears last January after spending the previous six seasons with the Denver Broncos, the last four working for Fox as quarterbacks coach (2011-12) and offensive coordinator (2013-14). “Every week is a growing experience”. The Dolphins haven’t been to the playoffs since 2008, when they had their most recent winning season.
The Giants already interviewed their own offensive coordinator, Ben McAdoo, for the head coach opening.
He’s got a proven track record with quarterbacks and offensive structures, and he showed a lot of backbone before the 2015 season when he balked at the 49ers’ insistence that defensive line coach Jim Tomsula be retained on his staff should Gase get the head coach job.
In addition to interviewing with the Dolphins, Gase also interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns and New York Giants this week.
According to Reuben Frank of CSNPhilly, the Eagles have not actually scheduled a second interview as many believed.
Gase helped raise Chicago’s offense from 21st to 18th this year, with the run game averaging 3.9 yards per carry, which made Gase the hottest candidate on the market. But perhaps some words from his big brother could warm him to the possibility of Gase – just two years older than Eli and two years younger than Peyton – as his next head coach.
The Dolphins interviewed seven candidates this week, including interim head coach Dan Campbell and former longtime head coaches Mike Shanahan and Mike Smith. He played in 17 games over two seasons, with two career interceptions, spending his rookie year with the Jets and his second season with the Indianapolis Colts.
During Gase’s introductory news conference, the Dolphins announced he will have full control of the team’s 53-man roster.
“I wish he could stay in Chicago, but everyone has a journey and this is the next part of his”, Cutler said of Gase.
The Miami Dolphins have named Adam Gase their head coach. He followed Saban to Louisiana State and was a graduate assistant and recruiting assistant before beginning his National Football League career in 2003. Other candidates interviewed have been Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, and Bills running backs coach and assistant head coach Anthony Lynn.
