Storm will bring hazards for morning commute
Winter Storm Warning/Freezing Rain Advisory for Freezing Rain and Sleet is in effect for the entire Chicago area Monday.
A mix of snow and rain accompanied by strong winds will be arriving today.
According to Kistner the storm in the Northeast is part of the same system which brought tornadoes in the Midwest on Saturday and then moved to the Great Lakes leaving ice, rain, heavy snow and flooding on its way.
A winter storm is hitting Central Iowa and conditions are already going downhill in Southern Iowa early this morning.
The New York State Thruway Authority has 518 operators ready to deploy 201 Large Snow Plows, 142 Medium Snow Plows and 54 Loaders statewide.
The National Weather Service says Wednesday will be cloudy with some precipitation. Few cars passed along the road as he crossed the street to an unplowed sidewalk.
In their latest report, forecasters from the National Weather Service are predicting freezing rain is possible from Burlington to Lawrence and points east through 4 p.m. Monday afternoon.
Snow is predicted to continue to fall in the Augusta/Waterville area until about 3 p.m., with freezing drizzle in the evening and 3-8 inches of snow forecast for the area.
Area roads are expected to be very icy Monday afternoon, December 28, and throughout the later hours. New Year’s Day is expected to be sunny with a high near 40 degrees.
“We have a lot of volunteers for the event and we didn’t want to get them trapped here in a bad storm”, said director of marketing Jon Pic. Tuesday’s highs will be in the mid to upper 30’s.
Look for colder weather later in the week toward New Year’s Day with a high dropping back into the 30s and the possibility of snow showers.
