President preparing for final State of the Union Address
President Obama will deliver his final State of the Union on Tuesday, January 12th, and the White House released a preview of his final address.
On expectations for Haley’s remarks, Angelo said, “Having met Nikki Haley when she was campaigning for governor of SC, and knowing her appreciation of the work of Log Cabin Republicans, I’m expecting a common-sense conservative message containing a vision for all Americans that contrasts with what will nearly assuredly be a polarizing State of the Union address from the president”.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been more optimistic about a year ahead than I am right now”, he says. Unlike previous years, Obama will not be setting a new legislative agenda. Each guest will represent an aspect of the progress that Obama says happened because of his leadership, the White House said.
The gesture is seen as an indication that Obama plans to make his efforts to combat the nation’s gun scourge a central piece of his final State of the Union address.
Given that this is Obama’s final State of the Union, aides believe the President will still take a few moments to look back on his two terms in office, especially its tumultuous beginning. “That’s what’s on my mind”, Obama said, Time reported.
The unorthodox address style Obama has planned could provide a challenge for the Republican response.
U.S. President Barack Obama got emotional Tuesday while talking about Newtown, Connecticut, and other mass killings during an event held to announce new gun control measures.
Senior administration officials have said that the President will deliver a “non-traditional” speech this year, and as evidenced by this video teaser.
He will visit Omaha, Nebraska, on Wednesday, followed by an appearance in Baton Rouge on Thursday.
