Golden State Warriors romp to victory over Los Angeles Lakers
The league’s reigning Most Valuable Player, Curry, missed three games with a lower leg injury but has played extended minutes in the last two games and seems to be back to his old self. He subbed out with 17 points and six assists at the 2:46 mark of the third quarter, headed for the locker room, and the Warriors announced that he wouldn’t return. While his competitive nature may motivate him to want to try to play hurt, the best thing for his team’s chances of repeating as champions would be for him to limit any risk of further injury, and rest until he’s at least close to being 100 percent.
Even though they trailed through much of the first half, the Hornets were hanging in nicely for much of the game and made a run to get within 66-65 on Jeremy Lin’s 3-pointer with 8:56 to go in the third quarter.
Not many of Thompson’s quarters can measure up to his 37-point outburst last season. But Thompson coming out firing with 22 points in the first against the Lakers was a sight to see. He’s shooting 51 percent from the field and 45 percent from behind the three-point line. His teammates were well aware of the hot hand and made it their mission to feed him the ball.
Los Angeles star Kobe Bryant missed his third consecutive game with a sore right shoulder.
The Warriors have been experimenting with different shin pads to protect Curry, and Schulz says anything that limits the force of the impact on the sensitive area is the correct way to go about it. Ryan Kelly and Tarik Black played the final 7.5 minutes of the game, both finishing at +7.
Stephen Curry re-injured his troublesome left shin, but stayed in the game and has no plans on sitting out again.
Green had 10 points, 11 rebounds and 16 assists in a 114-110 road win against the Rockets in which the Warriors played without Curry.
Stephen Curry likened his left shin to a magnet. However, a replay stream will be available after the conclusion of the contests between the Warriors and Lakers has ended via paid subscription to NBA League Pass. That number also requires some context, because it’s as many points as the Phoenix Suns scored in the first half of Sunday’s Lakers blowout.
The lone bright spot for the Lakers was Jordan Clarkson, who had 23 points and 5 rebounds. Lou Williams and Ryan Kelly had 10 points and Larry Nance Jr. added nine. He finished 12-for-22 from the floor, 6-for-12 on 3-pointers. The fans at Oracle Arena gave Barnes a standing ovation when he entered the game, which gave Interim Head Coach, Luke Walton more flexibility with his lineup.
For the Warriors, guard Leandro Barbosa (left shoulder sprain) and James Michael McAdoo (sprained toe) were unavailable.
