Nuggets’ Kenneth Faried calms fears after freaky neck scare
Faried had feeling in his hands and feet and was showing no neurological symptoms anywhere. He was taken to an area hospital for x-rays and evaluation.
Faried raised his arm for a thumbs up to fans who stuck around after Golden State’s 111-108 overtime victory. Barton then got Denver’s final shot, but couldn’t connect on a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer.
That was certainly the case Saturday, when Green recorded a season-high 29 points, 14 assists and 17 rebounds, outscoring the entire Nuggets lineup in the first quarter and leading the Warriors (31-2) to a 111-108 overtime win.
The loss was Denver’s fifth straight and extended Golden State’s home winning streak to 34 consecutive games. The Warriors tended to move better with Clark filing Curry’s shoes than with Livingston playing the role for the first unit, because Clark is a more natural floor-spreader, given his three-and-drive game. The New Jersey native seemed shaken up initially as he rubbed his neck before he lay down at the end of the Nuggets’ bench.
Thompson’s back shot pushed the Warriors’ lead to four, but Barton came up big down the stretch.
Nurkic was rusty in his first game action since April 15; after checking in for Nikola Jokic at the 6:37 mark of the first quarter, the Bosnian 7-footer missed all five of his shots, with Green and Andrew Bogut delivering blocks on a couple of attempts. The Nuggets rallied behind Gallinari, Nelson and 22 offensive rebounds in regulation play.
The Spurs broke open a close game that saw eight first-half lead changes with a 26-5 scoring run in the third quarter. Golden State has won both meetings with Denver this season and the two have hit the over in both meetings.
Since the start of the 2013-14 season, Golden State are just 2-6 in games that Curry does not play in. The teams traded baskets the rest of way until Thompson delivered the difference-making points.
This game went from a sure blowout to an incredible thriller and surely the Nuggets players aren’t hanging their heads.
He was taken to an Oakland hospital as a “precaution”, is how the Nuggets labeled it, after taking a blow to the back of the neck in a collision with teammate Will Barton on Thompson’s game-winner. There is still no timetable for Warriors coach Steve Kerr’s return. SF Harrison Barnes (ankle) and C Festus Ezeli (toe) were among the six Warriors who did not suit up for the game….
The NBA champion Warriors own the best record in the league, at 30-2.
Rockets: Rockets guard Marcus Thornton missed the game following the birth of his daughter, Maleia, with fiancee Lyndsey Duplessis on Friday.
