Manning will be back under center for Broncos
Manning, who came off the bench for the first time in his career last week, sparked the sloppy Broncos to a come-from-behind win over the Chargers that clinched both a division title and the AFC’s top overall seed. In the interim, the Broncos went 4-2 under Osweiler and when Manning was ready to return last week, he was positioned as Brock’s backup.

“Sometimes, the feel is that the team is just looking around that guy, for that tremendous leadership type of stuff”, Kubiak said after the game, per Jeff Legwold of ESPN. He’s played extremely well in tough situations, he’s a very tough kid. Manning signed his name on the dotted line for a five-year, $96 million contract back then, and the closest they’ve come to winning a Super Bowl was when they lost to Seattle two seasons ago in a game that was practically over in the first quarter. Despite all of the negatives, the Broncos still feel that Peyton Manning gives them to the best chance to win in the postseason, even with Manning’s nine career one-and-done’s in the playoffs.
USA Today Sports reports on the recent announcement that Peyton Manning will start for the Denver Broncos in their upcoming playoff game.
“I’m just trying to get everybody as fresh as I can as possible as we head into next week”, coach Gary Kubiak said.
Ball security. Running back C.J. Anderson had his best games in the second half of the season, but he fumbled the ball in back-to-back games to close out the regular season. The Broncos likely will be cautious with Stewart in practice, considering that it was an aggravation of a hamstring injury he sustained December 13 against the Raiders. Osweiler took over, completing about 62 percent of his passes and tallying 10 touchdowns in seven starts. However, Manning’s veteran instincts and playoff experience is sure to help the Broncos make a deep run this postseason. The Broncos hope to have him back for the playoffs. But at the end of the day, facts are facts. “It’s hard to hear that you’re not going to be the one playing”.
“Just my gut told me to turn it over to him”, Kubiak told reporters. Manning threw four interceptions in that game before being pulled in favor of Osweiler.
But it’s also probably the “right” move to go with Manning.
The renewed confidence in Manning extends to the rest of the roster, including the receivers who have adjusted to catching passes from Osweiler over the last two months.
