Tomsula Out Of 49ers After Year

Jarryd Hayne had a roller coaster first season with the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL. 500 in a season since 2006 but were in position to reach that mark in the late stages of Sunday’s season finale against the San Francisco 49ers.

After the 49ers fired Tomsula after a 5-11 season in 2015, Harbaugh couldn’t resist making a comment on social media. They finished this season with a 5-11 record, their worst mark since 2007, and in last place in the NFC West for the first time since 2005.

Tomsula was sacked after the 49ers’ overtime win over the St. Louis Rams, which was just their fifth win this season.

“Jimmy has been a valuable member of the 49ers organisation for the last nine years”, chief executive Jed York said. “We all know he is a man of high character, and his contributions on the field and in our community have always been greatly appreciated”.

“In terms of Jimmy T, we took a chance on somebody that we believe strongly in… and ultimately that didn’t work out. We all wish him and his family great success in the future”. He didn’t immediately respond to a text message.

Tomsula was a punch line from his opening news conference, which he stumbled through. “You will reap what you sow”, he wrote.

The media was quick to ask York about Jim Harbaugh as opposed to even Jim Tomsula. The owner, Jed York, has not been accountable and his general manager Trent Baalke somehow keeps surviving.

If Tomsula’s contract had an offset and he got a new coaching job that paid him $1 million per year, that would be $1 million less that the 49ers would have to pay him.

Now, the coaching search begins again.

“It’s rare in this league that you get a coach that truly, genuinely cares about his players”, safety Eric Reid said after Sunday’s game. Gase is one of the top candidates on the head coaching market this offseason.

“I’m not going to make this about Jim and Jim’s job status here today”, Tomsula said after the game.
