Fan falls asleep in Manchester United vs Sheffield United game because’s he’s
Manchester United scraped into the FA Cup fourth round after a late penalty knocked out Sheffield United on Saturday but the Old Trafford gloom remained and former midfielder Paul Scholes says even the players are bored.
Van Gaal’s blank stare after the Rooney penalty that sealed the win, simply summed of his feelings and the United supporters for the match.
Van Gaal dropped another clanger on Friday when he twice referred to Will Keane by his twin brother’s name Michael.
Though Van Gaal had earlier declared that going to the next round was the primary aim, Paul Scholes was not at al pleased with Manchester United’s performance.
“I think a player of Manchester United has to cope with the pressure of the fans of Manchester United and also with the media pressure”.
The fact that George Long in the Sheffield United goal had only one save to make highlighted the dire nature of United’s performance but van Gaal chose to focus on the other end of the pitch instead.
Scholes added: “I’ve tried to defend this team over recent weeks, but it’s getting more and more hard to do”.
“It was a bit better in the second, we created a bit more but not much”.
“That’s the way this team plays football and he’ll be happy with the 1-0 win”. “Every time I come to Old Trafford it’s negative football, I would be depressed if I was part of that performance”.
Scholes did not go as far as to suggest United need to get rid of Van Gaal, but believes a change in approach needs to be taken with regards to tactics.
Van Gaal said that midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger would be assessed following a knee injury ahead of United’s Premier League game at Newcastle United on Tuesday. He’s got some really good players there. “Only two shots on target, I think everyone will realise that’s not good enough”.
