Laura Dern May Have Joined Showtime’s Twin Peaks Revival
Nobody actually knows who the hell will show up in Showtime’s forthcoming Twin Peaks revival. But Lynch clearly has a soft spot for Dern (and let’s face it, so do we). Expect Dern’s Twin Peaks role to be a big one, even if it’s not Diane.
She joins her former co-star Kyle Maclachlan, who will be returning as Special Agent Dale Cooper-fans of the show will recall Cooper and Audrey having something of a will-they-won’t-they vibe way back when. “Diane” acted as Cooper’s offscreen secretary during the series, the agent frequently addressing her in his tape-recorded notes, though some had theorized the character as a figment of Cooper’s imagination.
More than 25 years after Twin Peaks first signed off, fans of the critically acclaimed series are counting the minutes until its return as a Showtime limited series.
Along with MacLachlan and Dern, the cast is said to include returnees Sheryl Lee and Sherilyn Fenn plus new additions Robert Knepper, Balthazar Getty, and Amanda Seyfried.
David Lynch and Twin Peaks co-creator Mark Frost wrote the scripts, with Lynch confirmed to direct all episodes of the revival series, however many that turns out to be.
Dern and Lynch previously worked together on Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart and Inland Empire.
Filming is already underway in Washington state with an eye on a summer 2017 premiere.
