Star Wars: Hasbro promises more Rey in future products
As we previously reported, the game company was recently bombarded with complaints when it came to fans’ attention that Rey, the protagonist of The Force Awakens, was not included in Star Wars Monopoly.
Incredibly, Hasbro initially said that it left Rey out of the Monopoly set because as it was released in September prior to the launch of the film her inclusion would have spoilt the plot for fans. There’s really no comparison.
An eight-year-old girl has changed the character options in the latest Star Wars Monopoly game after writing a passionate letter to board game maker Hasbro.
Now all of the fans who were asking #WhereIsRey have their answer: Park Place and Boardwalk, kicking her co-stars’ asses. [Hasbro is] thrilled with the popularity of this compelling character and will continue to look for ways to showcase Rey across all of our product lines…
The game hit store shelves three months before the film was released.
Rey will awaken the force in the new “Star Wars”-themed Monopoly game”.
“How could you leave out Rey!?”
The character, Rey, played by British actress Daisy Ridley, was omitted as one of the game’s tokens, even though another new male character, Finn, was included.
Future editions will include Rey along with other modern day “Star Wars” characters Finn and Kylo Ren. The decision to exclude Rey led to a social media debate, with many fans tweeting under #WheresRey.
Star Wars released its official poster in October, which featured Rey in the most prominent position possible.
“Besides”, she continued, “Boys and girls need to see women can be as strong as men! It’s about representing the hero of this film”, she said.
