Israel begins sealing home of Palestinian terrorist in east Jerusalem
Tens of thousands of people attended funerals in the West Bank on Saturday for Palestinians killed in violence over the past few months during a period of near-daily Palestinian attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers.
On Saturday, in the West Bank city of Hebron, tens of thousands of Palestinians attended the funeral of 17 of the Palestinians whose bodies were returned.
While Israel alleges many of those were attempting to attack Israelis when they were shot, Palestinians and rights groups have disputed Israel’s version of events in a number of cases.
Amiram Ben-Oliel, 21, has been charged with murder, and a second suspect, a youth, as an accessory to murder.
The Israeli military says a Palestinian attacker has stabbed a soldier in the West Bank, after which troops at the scene shot and killed him.
Two additional indictments, meanwhile, were filed against two other Jewish settlers for involvement in the arson attack, which killed 18-month-old Ali Dawabsheh and his parents and left four-year-old Ahmad Dawabsheh with serious injuries.
“We are questioning the capability and competence of Israeli law”.
Saad’s brother Naser was unconvinced by Israel’s commitment to the prosecution.
“The Israeli justice system is now in the spotlight”, he said. The attacker had attempted to stab police on Haim Bar-Lev Street in Jerusalem near the Old City and then tried to run away.
The Gush Etzion junction – the entrance point to the illegal Gush Etzion settlement bloc – has seen several deadly encounters since a wave of unrest swept the occupied Palestinian territory in October.
Attorneys for the suspects said the authorities did not have enough evidence to convict their clients and accused the security establishment of using brutal and unorthodox investigation methods, including torturing the suspects and holding them for days without allowing them to meet with their legal counsels.
