Suspect who police say pledged IS allegiance arraigned
Hartnett sustained three gunshot wounds to the arm and one to the buttocks. J.M. Berger, an expert on terrorism and co-author of “ISIS: The State of Terror”, told The Washington Post Friday that this might fit the pattern of recent attacks in which people invoke the group without formal ties or exposure.
A relative said Holliday had left the home with police.
So just how delusional is Edward Archer, pictured above (and below), the chap who ran up to Police Officer Jesse Hartnett’s cruiser on the streets of Philadelphia and, brandishing a stolen police revolver, unleashed a hail of bullets, wounding Hartnett?
Abdulsalaam said Archer called her “Aunty”, or “Sister Jannah”, and used to check on her or occasionally buy her groceries. It said Philadelphia and federal authorities are “actively investigating” the tip, which was made by someone who stopped an officer on the street. Police have said there was no indication anyone else was involved in the officer’s ambush.
Archer, 30, of Yeadon, was arraigned Saturday and ordered held without bail, his preliminary hearing set for January 25.
Officer Jessie Hartnett was hit in the arm while sitting in his patrol vehicle in Philadelphia, USA, shortly before midnight on Thursday.
“I pledge my allegiance to the Islamic State, and that’s why I did what I did”, Archer told detectives, according to Homicide Capt. James Clark.
She also said her son felt targeted by police.
Ross said the attacker told authorities he was pledging allegiance to ISIL, the terrorist group that controls parts of Iraq and Syria.
“The citizen alleged the defendant had an affiliation to a group with radical beliefs”, the statement read.
Authorities say the officer was approached by a man prior to entering the PPMC. She warned police to “be careful”. Archer has a USA passport and was not on a watch list, the sources said.
“He was a frequent member of the masjid. I think it’s a publicity stunt probably to just get favor for him”, Dolfman said on Saturday.
“I know him as Abdul Shaheed….”
“This is the model we’ve seen for ISIS over the past year or so”, Berger said. Afterward, he served in the Coast Guard Reserve, and spent two years on the East Lansdowne police force before becoming a Philadelphia police officer. Any reasonable thinking person understands there’s a difference between these radicals who do do this in the name of their version of Islam and the peace-loving Muslims who populate the earth. Neither would give a name.
“At this hour, it does not appear that he was an observant or mosque-going Muslim”, he said.
“The AICP is not a terrorist organization at all and the teachings here refute that ideology”, the man said. The spokesperson did not comment on the other charges but said that the district attorney’s office was “reviewing the case for general information” after Archer’s arrest Thursday night.
