Egyptian-American’s TV series wins big at Golden Globes

At a bleep-filled, irreverent Beverly Hills, Calif., ceremony Sunday, Ricky Gervais presided over a Globes that seemed to risk unraveling before the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s show coalesced its support for “The Revenant” and “The Martian”.

The Golden Globes packed a lot in over the course of three hours – big wins for The Revenant, The Martian, and Mozart in the Jungle; an nearly rumble between host Ricky Gervais and Mel Gibson; a standing ovation for Sylvester Stallone; Taraji P. Henson passing out cookies; a whole lot of cursing.
The Globes have instead grown into one of the most popular award show broadcasts of the year, thanks to increasingly credible nominees, its trademark relaxed atmosphere and its unique position as a major awards show that honours both film and television.
Another slight curveball was the dominance of The Revenant on the film side, as it picked up the prize for best drama.
Denzel Washington was the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award given annually to an artist for outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.

The song “Writing’s on the wall”, sung by Grammy victor Sam Smith for “Spectre”, won the best original song while the best original score award was won by Ennio Morricone for “The Hateful Eight”.
