How Will Legends of Tomorrow Cross Over With Arrow and The Flash?
“That said, if you know the histories of Arrow and The Flash, it should be fun in its own way”.
Ciara Renee, who plays Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, said that she views the various iterations of her character across The Flash and Arrow as a person who “was just waiting to get to Legends”.
Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) will appear on “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow“, but there’s a little twist.
Legends of Tomorrow takes an array of key side characters from the Flash and Arrow worlds and sends them on their own save-the-world mission as time traveler Rip Hunter takes them through the ages to stop Vandal Savage.
Years before he had multiple shows all over the television landscape, writer/producer Greg Berlanti was the man behind the cult WB family drama “Everwood”.
During a panel in front of television reporters ahead of the show’s premiere, executive producer Marc Guggenheim revealed that Legends will still intersect with Arrow and The Flash, but not in the way we’re used to those shows intersecting. That being said, whenever we have conversations about time travel in the room, I always break it down to I always ask my questions in terms of is this like “Back to the Future, ‘ you know, or is it like ’12 Monkeys”? Pedowitz said, “You have this wealth of additional characters”, explained Berlanti, and pitched a heroes versus villains concept. I don’t think anyone is going to want to see any of them die or be hurt or be wounded anymore than they want any of them. All ten members of the main cast were there, as well as five of the show’s executive producers and DC Comics CCO Geoff Johns. “It’s all about is my life going to matter”, he said.
Berlanti described Legends as a Dirty Dozen or Oceans Eleven-type mashup of characters “on a singular kind of quest”.
Despite concerns that there will eventually be a saturation point for superhero shows on TV, Johns said that as long as the shows are all exploring something different and “as long as they’re all great shows”, that day will never come. “The big discovery for me in this show is how much of a show, of a family show it really is”, said Berlanti.
With a cast as large as Legends of Tomorrow, there’s always a fear that some characters can get short-changed. And while that doesn’t mean they won’t be back on their original shows, don’t expect the visits to be anything more than “intermittent”. And I’m not sure I had that thought or any of us did as we sort of ventured out. When you’re told, “You guys are going to make an impact on life” and then you’re told you actually don’t make an impact on life, I think that’s a really sobering, challenging thing to hear.
The CW released our first full clip from Legends of Tomorrow’s pilot premiere on January 21, emphasizing the humor of the series as Sara Lance, Leonard Snart and Mick Rory have some fun visiting a dive bar in 1975.
