Texans DE Watt to undergo groin surgery
J.J. Watt was dogged by a groin injury long before he left Saturday’s blowout loss to the Chiefs. Yesterday the Chiefs won their eleventh straight game, and first of the playoffs, according to ESPN.
Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin had an MRI on Sunday that showed his right ACL was intact, but revealed a sprained ankle sustained in the Chiefs’ 30-0 romp in Houston.
The good news here is that it was not an ACL tear, as many had feared, and that there is still a chance that Maclin suits up and plays for the Chiefs in Foxborough on Saturday. He ended his first season in Kansas City with over 1,000 yards receiving and eight touchdowns, and proved time and time again to be Alex Smith’s favorite target.
Maclin’s status for this upcoming weekend’s game is uncertain, and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is likely hoping his leading receiver can make it back by next Saturday against the New England Patriots. He has since been moved to the sideline with Chiefs medical looking at him.
“It was bad to not be out there with my teammates”, Watt said after the game. How much he’ll be able to do remains to be seen, and we’ll get a better idea of how he feels as the week goes on and he gets into practice.
If Maclin is unable to go, rookie Chris Conley would take his place against the Patriots.
If there’s any statistic that seems to be the most mind-boggling, its that the Kansas City Chiefs were 1-4 when Jamaal Charles played, but 10-1 when he did not. Kelce is second, in receptions, yards and touchdowns.
Many expected Knile Davis to step in if Charles got hurt, as he had served as the Chief’s No. 2 running back for several seasons, but it was the undrafted Charcandrick West who got the nod.
During the third quarter, the game decidedly out of reach, Jeremy Maclin caught a short pass and was injured on the subsequent tackle.
