Lady Gaga reigns supreme on Twitter during Golden Globes
Things this award is not: his first, an Oscar, a ticket to Oscar assurances.
Revenge drama “The Revenant” and space adventure “The Martian” took the top film awards at Sunday’s Golden Globes, setting them up as formidable Oscar contenders after a night of surprises and stinging barbs from return host Ricky Gervais. “I knew that we had something special”, she said of the show.
Sylvester Stallone won his first ever Globe as Best Supporting Actor for Creed and thanked his “imaginary friend Rocky Balboa for being the best friend ever”. Last year’s victor Julianne Moore (“Still Alice”) went on to win the Oscar as well.
– Gervais, opening the three-hour show at the Beverly Hilton.
– Actor-director Mel Gibson, in a flawless comeback on the pain of enduring Gervais’s many jokes about him. “It is time that we heard your voice and protected this planet for future generations.” said DiCaprio.
Quentin Tarantino accepted the award for Ennio Morricone’s score for his The Hateful Eight – a victor that presenter Jamie Foxx initially read as Straight Outta Compton in a parody of the Miss Universe victor debacle. All are still very much in the race, but perhaps slightly less rock-solid than they looked going into Sunday night.
British comedian Ricky Gervais hosted the event for the fourth time (he previously emceed 2010-12), but not everyone was a fan of his spiky humour. “David, I want us to be buried next to each other. Not even Sean Penn will find me”, he said, pausing for a swig.
Jennifer Lawrence, who won two recent Globes (“American Hustle“, “Silver Linings Playbook”), but whose “Joy” was considered a lesser film, picked up an award for best actress in a motion picture musical or comedy.
While he did share a laugh regarding the movie’s being categorized as a “Musical or Comedy” by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Matt Damon admitted he’s happy The Martian found an audience.
And the award for the most hilarious moment of the Golden Globes 2016HAS to go to Leonardo DiCaprio for his priceless reaction to Lady Gaga’s win.
“It’s like one of the greatest moments of my life”.
“Mr Robot”, about a computer programmer and vigilante hacker, took home the prize for best drama series.
Jon Hamm embraced fellow nominees Bob Odenkirk and Liev Schreiber as he was named best actor in a TV series drama for Mad Men.
If it were me, and I’m not saying Gaga did it on objective, I would’ve totally bumped into him (because I too am 12). “And thank you for not taking my suggestion and ending the entire series on Chumbawamba, you picked the right song”.
