Gun show attendees fire off on Obama’s action
“Once again, President Obama has chose to take divisive, unilateral action rather than work with Congress. The announcement makes it clear that he has little respect for the constitutional rights of gun-owning Americans, and even less respect for our constitutional system of government”.
The president’s orders will narrow the “unlicensed sale” loophole – through which millions of guns are sold each year – by clarifying which gun sellers need to get a license and follow all the rules that licensed gun dealers need to follow.
“I don’t know that any of them would have been stopped by a background check”, the outspoken Christian and mother-of-two told Obama of those who have committed mass shootings during the CNN-hosted town hall on gun violence.
Texas Gun and Knife Show promoter Janice Hill said the show would implement changes for private sales.
“I think we’re seeing the same thing that we see at the store”.
For Kyle, the issue of gun control hits close to home, as her husband, war hero Chris Kyle, was shot and killed February 2, 2013, at a firing range by a mentally disturbed U.S. Marines veteran he was helping.
“I don’t see this preventing lawful gun owners from purchasing more guns”.
Even so, Taya Kyle was one of several people who asked the President questions that he either dodged, filibustered, or flat-out lied about in response.
Wesley Bielinski, a gun owner from Chicago, said eliminating gun-free zones – areas where people are prohibited from carrying guns – would eliminate gun violence by allowing people to protect themselves.
“The problem with that argument, as the Chicago Police Department will tell you”, he said at the time, “is that 60 percent of guns recovered come from out of state”.
“The goal is keeping bad actors away from firearms”, Lynch said after the President changed the way gun sales are monitored and carried out.
While she rarely addresses this issue in her speeches, the First Lady was apparently moved to following the death of Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-old honours student who was gunned down in Chicago in January of that year.
Norwalk Police Chief Dave Light, an admitted “strong advocate for our Second Amendment Rights”, provided his thoughts on Obama’s presidential order.
The reality is that this sort of uninformed fomentation by individuals who would like to hold the highest office in the land does far more damage than good because there is absolutely, positively, without a doubt, no way the President is coming to take your guns.
Wakeman Police Chief Tim Hunker said he doesn’t think Obama is asking for too much. His new executive actions aim to enforce more gun laws, increase background checks and help those suffering from mental illness.
The current debate among Texas legislators is the lengths to which law enforcement officials should go assure that open carriers are indeed licensed. “The fact that the system doesn’t catch every single person has to be weighed against the fact that we might be able to save a whole bunch of families from the grief that some of the people in this audience have had to go through”.
