A Preview of the Auto Show 2016

In 2016 one of the SUVs GM sells in America – – the Buick Envision – will be, for the first time, imported from China, to the chagrin of the United Auto Workers union, a key Obama constituency. The Big Three automakers are raising wages.

“Seven years ago, auto sales hit a 27-year low”, the president said in his weekly address. Because today, the American auto industry is back. To open up the presentation, Barra and Batey highlighted 2015 as a year of solid market share gains and brand recognition at an all-time high.

Eileen Wunderlich, FCA spokeswoman, said the display will “be more like a production of a show this year”.

The auto show also will lay bare another juggling act for Detroit.

2015 was a great year for automakers, with vehicle sales topping 17 million and surpassing the record set in 2000.

We’ll also be interested in hearing about your favorites from this year’s North American International Auto Show. The Free Press reports the new auto has an optional “Driver Assistance Package”, allowing the vehicle to accelerate, brake, steer and change lanes for the driver.

President Barack Obama is scheduled to visit the show next week, a trip which would serve to remind how his administration helped rescue the industry from a devastating collapse during the economic crisis in 2009.

Chrysler will be unveiling the next generation of its Town and Country minivan. “I imagine they’re pulling out all the stops”, Nerad said. This is the first vehicle from Volvo to win an award since the company was purchased by Chinese automaker Geely during the recession.
