Taya Kyle Questions Obama During Town Hall
President Barack Obama has announced his plan to try to close up loopholes at gun shows.
The president is angry about gun violence – and rightly so.
He spoke on his failure to make changes in this area as president during a town hall with CNN’s Anderson Cooper Thursday night.
Despite the fact her husband was shot dead at a firing range, Taya Kyle doesn’t believe in more gun control and confronted President Obama over his new gun laws. “His executive actions are definitely moving in the right direction”.
Rep. Ford noted some troubling statistics about gun violence and African-American communities. Northern Virginia Congressman Gerry Connolly says GOP is making a mistake by rejecting calls for modest gun control measures. Almost 3,000 people were victims of gun violence in Chicago previous year, according to Chicago Police Department data. “All time high for gun ownership”.
That’s including sales and trades at gun shows and between private parties. “Where they can actually go after the bad guys and aid in the prosecution of bad guys that are doing bad things with guns now”. “I’d put forward some hot political potatoes like guns”.
“When someone buys a gun from licensed dealer they fill out a 4473 background check”, said Chris Dodson, store manager at The Shootin’ Shop in Abilene. That’s why the White House says the president acted alone to enhance the background check system.
Sandra walker agrees. She says guns aren’t the issue, it’s the people. The president and the American people will not just throw their vote to anyone with a “D” next to their name.
“If you have never owned a weapon, or have never known the masses of peaceful gun owners who love their families and are in nurturing professions such as counseling, nursing, social work and pastoral jobs, may I suggest you talk to them about why they cherish their freedom to have these weapons?” she wrote in a CNN commentary.
But some are doubtful if the President’s executive order for more gun control will bring down criminal rates.
“I want the hope that I have the right to protect myself”. But Obama still has not met with her family members. “Are you suggesting that the notion that we are creating a plot to take everybody’s guns away so that we can impose martial law?” “You pass a background check, you purchase a firearm”. “And you shouldn’t have a gun if you have some kind of mental problem”. Supporters said more job-creation and youth programs are needed.
“It took a lot longer, a lot longer”, Diane Ward said.
Nearly everyone agreed that nothing will improve if people don’t come together to address the issue.
“I thought, ‘yes, that’s democracy, ‘” Kyle said Friday.
