PSG gets shirty over MIA music video
Paris Saint-Germain have served rapper M.I.
Paris Saint-Germain has written to British rap artist M.I.A. after she wore and doctored one of their shirts for a music video depicting the refugee crisis.
In the video, M.I.A.is seen wearing a PSG jersey, which she altered by changing the club sponsor from “Fly Emirates” to “Fly Pirates”. Mostly the club’s management seems upset that the “Fly Emirates” logo has been modified to “Fly Pirates”.
It doesn’t look like anything is to immediately come of the French football clubs requests, with M.I.A. herself sharing the letter via Twitter and then going on to share multiple tweets of fans outrage at the situation.
Apparently the organization donated €1 million to French charities Secours Populaire and the UNHCR follow the refugee crisis. PSG sent M.I.A. a letter, asking that she remove “Borders” from the internet.
Bosses of the club took issue with her using their official shirt in such a politically-charged single without permission, and fear their association with the video could harm their reputation.
“In light of the foregoing, we consider that the use of our brand and image in a video clip denouncing the treatment of refugees is a source of discredit for our club and distorts its public communication policy”.
“. More than surprised we simply do no understand why we are associated through our logo and the official jersey of our team’s players, to such denunciation.”
“Me and sports – it’s a love hate thing”, wrote the singer who a year ago was sued by the US National Football League for $16.6 million after she extended her middle finger during a performance with Madonna at the 2014 Super Bowl.
