Jurgen Klopp blamed for Liverpool FC’s current injury crisis
The Brazil worldwide is the latest player to fall victim to a hamstring strain – Dejan Lovren also sustained a similar problem in Tuesday’s Capital One Cup semi-final victory at Stoke – and his extended absence is a significant blow to an already threadbare squad.
Jordon Ibe, who replaced Coutinho after 18 minutes, scored the victor as half-time neared.
Exeter manager Paul Tisdale has warned injury-hit Liverpool that his side will play with no FA Cup fear on Friday night.
Only 1-0 but of course we have two bad injuries and that’s why I’m not only lucky tonight.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had some strong words for his team following the 2-0 defeat against West Ham on Saturday, and midfielder Joe Allen admits that it was a timely wake-up call for the entire team.
“It was just some frank words really and I think as a team we needed to hear them”, he said.
He said: “Maybe I could look at our training methods but we don’t train – we only recover”.
Ibe is said to have complained of discomfort in the aftermath of the Britannia success, but Liverpool have not given up hope that he could make next week’s Premier League fixtures against Arsenal and Manchester United.
“We have to see what we can do after this game”.
Coutinho and Lovren join Daniel Sturridge, Martin Skrtel, Divock Origi and Jordan Rossiter at the treatment table for hamstring injuries, leaving the club with one recognised centre-back.
“Kolo has cramp. That’s not a big problem, but it’s not possible for him to play again within three days”. He’s got so many games and today was a positive all round I think, especially with the problems we had at the beginning of the game. “With muscle injuries you don’t know”, Klopp was quoted as saying by the Guardian.
Adam Lallana admitted that the Liverpool players wanted to reward their fans for their support by getting a step closer to a second trip to Wembley in a year.
“We now have three injured centre-halves and the only fit one got a cramp in the last minute”.
“It’s a compromise between how much you risk, but we can play with no fear”.
He said: “Nothing is decided in the first leg of a semi-final”.
