Delhi Police trying to eliminate me: AAP leader
Another Delhi Police constable today filed a criminal defamation case in a court in New Delhi against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his “thulla” remark, a slang to refer to policemen. A lawyer, in his plea, said that Kejriwal has misled public at large by making untrue statement by misrepresenting and misquoting the July 15 order of Chief Justice G Rohini.
Meanwhile, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has asked the Delhi Police commissioner BS Bassi to meet him on Monday to discuss law and order situation in the national capital.
“He [Modi] has no time for Delhi Police“, Jain quoted the commissioner as saying.
Delhi Police, which reports to the union home ministry and not to the Delhi government, has some 1,500 inspectors who alone are eligible to head police stations.
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday said Delhi Police needs to proactively nail bad elements in populated areas.
Reacting to it, Bassi said, “It is quite easy to say that the system has shortcomings but I need to know specifically what these shortcomings are and what is the action plan (to rectify them)”.
Meanwhile, we also suggest that the Delhi Police needs to look into the mental health of their personnel and help them get to a state where they can handle such minuscule incidents more strongly. On AAP’s demand for bringing Delhi Police under the city government, Bassi said there is no need for any changes in its current administrative structure.
The police have arrested both brothers and are investigating the case, which has once again highlighted the issue of women’s safety in India and particularly in Delhi, which has been dubbed the “rape capital” following a string of high-profile sex assaults.
“We adhere by the Gita that is our constitution and various laws which govern policing in Delhi”, said Bassi. 5 lakh to her family.
Lashing out at the Prime Minister, senior party leader Sanjay Singh said Modi was using Delhi police “as a weapon” against AAP leaders and volunteers.
