Inside the New Hampshire pitch to those who don’t want Trump
By that criteria, at least six candidates qualify for the main stage: Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, and Ben Carson.
The 1994 article quoting Christie’s support for Planned Parenthood was written by Brian Murray, who now works as Christie’s spokesman in the governor’s office.
Even so, Christie’s public schedule has him returning to New Hampshire Wednesday morning for a town hall there.
In the aftermath of the terror attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, Calif., Christie has emphasized the job he held before he rose to national prominence: US attorney for New Jersey from 2002 to 2008.
Donald Trump, the unvarnished celebrity real estate mogul leading the GOP race, has declared that New Jersey is the “worst state in the union in terms of economics”. The governor says no, but his words as reported at the time suggest otherwise. Most pols would relish the chance to let their opponents tear into one another, but Trump needs to be the center of attention.
When Moody’s downgraded New Jersey’s credit rating in April 2015, citing “lack of improvement in the state’s weak financial position” and pension-funding shortfalls, Christie’s reaction was to say that he was “glad” the firm agrees with him.
Governors traditionally use the State of the State address to review their accomplishments and articulate a vision for the year to come.
Since Christie’s first full month in office, February 2010, New Jersey’s total private-sector employment had increased about 7 percent, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
“No, what I said at the time was that I was not interested in debating or changing – because I knew I couldn’t – New Jersey’s gun laws with a Democratic legislature”.
Just a third of likely voters overall have settled on their choice, although 46 percent of Trump’s fans say they’re locked in.
“Wang’s argument is based on recent electoral history, which shows that the last several nominees-including Mitt Romney, Barack Obama, and Al Gore-have had similar poll figures in the key early states and nationally (the #1-#2 lead” column shows the median difference between the #1 and #2 national candidates).
The governor conceded it was his time traveling the country as governor and chairman of the Republican Governors Association in 2014 that prompted him to evolve on gun control and oppose the assault weapons ban in New Jersey.
“Chris Christie personally contributed to Planned Parenthood”, Rubio said. “We’ve got more jobs”. “We should be a shall-issue state so people can defend themselves”. We can not definitively say that he has or hasn’t, but Christie was quoted in the state’s largest paper in 1994 as saying he did support the nonprofit “privately with my personal contribution”.
PolitickerNJ, July 17, 2009: “After watching and listening to Judge Sotomayor’s performance at the confirmation hearings this week, I am confident that she is qualified for the position of Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court”, said Christie, a former federal prosecutor. The speech had a strong partisan tone, with Christie directly admonishing business leaders who play “kissy face” with Democrats.
