POWERBALL Reaches $1.4 Billion For Wednesday Night’s Lottery Drawing
Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery, says officials with the Multi-State Lottery Association raised the estimated jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing again because of strong sales – but that the $900 million prize could rise again before Saturday’s drawing.
The Powerball jackpot broke a record twice now.
And Polston said the numbers were not matched, in spite of the fact that 78 percent of all the more than 292 million possible six-number combinations were covered by players in the 44 states, plus the District of Columbia and several USA territories where the game is offered.
The Powerball jackpot jumped to $1.4 billion on Monday morning.
The winning numbers for the drawing were 16-19-32-34-57 and the Powerball number was 13.
Although POWERBALL tickets must be purchased by 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday to be eligible for this drawing, players are encouraged to purchase early to avoid long lines.
The cash value of the prize is $868 million before taxes, according to powerball.com and winners have 180 days from the drawing to claim their prize. They plan to use that money toward buying more tickets for the new, higher jackpot. Cripe said 75 percent of all 292.2 million combinations were bought before Saturday’s drawing.
“It’s insane how big this jackpot is”, said Alex Traverso, a spokesman for the California Lottery, confirming that the current Powerball prize was record setting.
Dominguez’s ticket was one of 25 across the country that won $1 million that night.
Dominguez said winning the jackpot “would have been nice”, but $1 million fulfilled a feeling he’s had for a while.
N.J. Lotto Dreams People in N.J. answer the question: “What’s the craziest thing you would buy if you won this lottery?”
“It’s just fun”, said one woman who plays the lottery three times a week. And since there are $92 million in lower-tier prizes, you’d win all of those too.
“Biggest jackpot in the history of the world”.
Roughly 95 percent of Powerball tickets are computer-generated quick picks, so people’s favorite numbers aren’t really a factor.
