Mahila Congress activists protest, demand Sushma’s resignation
Setting the tone for the upcoming Monsoon session, BJP on Sunday decided against being defensive over the controversies related to Sushma Swaraj, Vasundhara Raje and Shivraj Singh Chouhan and would brazen it out in Parliament which is set to be stormy over these issues.
Mounting an offensive on the Modi government, Leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad said the running of Parliament and passage of important bills will be “more easy” if BJP takes action against these leaders while it will also help the party in “correcting” its image which has taken a hit due to the scams.
Since the news came to surface, Oppositions are demanding the resignations of the two BJP bigwigs from their respective posts. “We demand the resignation of all BJP leaders involved in cases of corruption and impropriety”, All India Mahila Congress president Shobha Ojha said.
The sources said the party and the government were ready to discuss all controversial issues with the Opposition but they should also be ready for discussion.
Raje is also facing criticims for having close ties with scam-tainted Lalit Modi, the former IPL boss. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan wants to change Madhya Pradesh Vyavsayik Pariksha Mandal, better known as Vyapam, to MP Pravesh Evam Bharti Pariksha Mandal as Vyapam has become a dirty word. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh may also be targeted in connection with a rice scam.
In an indication of the challenges his government is likely to face in Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has convened the maiden meeting of all NDA constituents tomorrow to deliberate the strategy to counter the opposition.
“We will aggressively and effectively counter the disinformation campaign of Congress”, said party media cell in-charge Shrikant Sharma, who was present at Shah’s meeting. The session will be from July 21 to August 3.
