I won’t be back for another Bond movie: Sam Mendes
Sam Mendes has revealed that he thought casting Daniel Craig as James Bond was a “terrible idea”.
Though he had directed the highest-grossing James Bond film of all time, director Sam Mendes previously passed on returning for the follow-up movie, the upcoming Spectre.
If this sounds vaguely familiar, it’s likely because he said something similar after his first go with a Bond movie, 2012’s Skyfall. A Bond film with a difference, Sam Mendes wowed fans & critics alike with his gritty take on the suave British super spy. This was an enormous undertaking, and a bigger movie than Skyfall; it’s shot in more places. “You do have to put everything else on hold”, he said.
Mendes said that directing “Spectre” was “a fantastic life-changing thing” and is akin to “one big experience”, BBC added.
Matthew Vaughn could be an interesting choice, especially when you consider that Kingsman was more or less a pisstake of Bond movies. But I wouldn’t bet on it. The difference this time is he’s not citing anything specific when it comes to not returning. Mendes said that he is happiest when he working on stage plays or editing films, as opposed to the chaos of a film set.
Other cast members include Sherlock star Andrew Scott, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Dave Bautista, Monica Bellucci and Ralph Fiennes.
Elsewhere in the interview, Mendes revealed that the Spectre theme song was complete, but remained tight-lipped on who recorded it.
Spectre is due out on October 26 in the UK, and will be followed by a worldwide release on November 6.
As usual with Bond films, most of the plot details of “Spectre” have been kept under wraps. However, he did say we “won’t have to wait long”.
As quoted by SlashFilm, the film’s synopsis reads: “A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization”.
