David Bowie’s wife Iman posts moving messages ahead of his death
Tributes have poured in from across the world following the announcement that David Bowie, legendary musician and actor, has died.
The 66-year-old is now appearing on “Celebrity Big Brother“, and was told the tragic news that the 69-year-old singer had died on Sunday (10.01.16) after an 18-month battle against cancer.
Born David Jones in the Brixton area of south London, Bowie took up the saxophone at 13.
From politicians to some of the world’s most influential entertainers, his passing has literally turned the planet blue.
In a Facebook post, Tony Visconti, Bowie’s album producer said, “His death was no different from his life, a work of art. He made Blackstar for us, his parting gift”.
That included the time in 1983, during the early days of MTV, when the network sat down with a then-resurgent Bowie to talk about his hit album, Let’s Dance. “While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief”, the brief statement reads.
“It’s become somewhat of a tradition for me to create something to celebrate David Bowie’s birthday”.
Yesterday his publicist, Steve Martin, confirmed his death, as did Bowie’s son, Duncan Jones, on Twitter. I’ll be offline for a while. In recent years, the singer has kept a low profile after undergoing heart surgery in 2004.
“Blackstar“, which earned positive reviews from critics, represented yet another stylistic shift, as he gathered jazz players to join him.
Iman and David married in April 1992 in a private ceremony in Lausanne, France and the wedding was later solemnised in June in Florence, Italy.
“Oh bloody hell. This is how the Elvis theories started”, tweeted British comedian David Baddiel.
The Prime Minister wrote: “I grew up listening to and watching the pop genius David Bowie”.
