Mehbooba yet to convene Legislature Party meet
The reason for the state government’s failure to appoint a successor to Sayeed was Mufti’s reluctance to take oath as chief minister during the four-day mourning period following her father’s death, according to a Press Trust of India report.
Uncertainty continued over the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, but the People’s Democratic Party and Bharatiya Janata Party dismissed speculations about any differences in the alliance. The BJP leaders are waiting for that to happen and are giving the required time and space to Mehbooba to come out of grief and be prepared to take over the chief ministerial mantle of the state. “He had a long association with the Congress Party”, Azad told ANI.
The PDP’s peace process balloon was fully burst by BJP, but PDP could not do anything and there was no hope for any political step to be taken in future too. She did not say anything on formation of government.
Asked about Congress chief Sonia Gandhi ” s meeting with Mehbooba yesterday which has fuelled political speculation, Madhav quipped, “What transpired, I do not know but I am tempted to believe that it was to express condolence.
“There nothing political in it (Sonia Gandhi meeting Mehbooba)”. In fact, the PDP is yet to respond to Governor N.N. Vohra’s letter asking that it make clear its intention in respect of government formation.
As she emerges from the deep shock of losing her father, mentor and friend, Mehbooba Mufti is slowly reconciling to the hard realities of political life.
“The new assembly session can only be convened after a government is formed in the state”, Gupta told reporters in Jammu.
Unprecedented rush of people was witnessed today at the Fairview residence here on the chahrum of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, former Chief Minister of the state. He argues that the alliance with the BJP would continue as legacy of Mufti Muhammad Sayeed.
“She had said in plain terms that she would not discuss politics with either party leaders or others who come to condole the family. Though he is not physically present now, his work and memories are before the people of Jammu and Kashmir and that needs to be carried forward”, he said.
It was also the seventh time Governor’s Rule has been promulgated in the state since Independence, the first being in March 1977.
Paying tributes to Mufti, Singh said Sayeed’s endeavour was to provide good governance to Jammu and Kashmir.
