Mother defends taking photo of toddler with Down syndrome inside washing
A mother learned this lesson the hard way when she shared an image of her 2-year-old boy stuffed inside a washing machine.
Stewart was contacted by the newspaper and she explained that it was all a fuss about nothing because the boy, who was small for his age, climbed into the machine on his own accord and was clearly having a great time.
“It’s no wonder people are mad about it”.
However, Stewart has refused to apologise.
Donnamarie Mcnally said: “Washing machines are not toys for kids to play with”.
“He’s got a bit of a washing obsession”, Stewart told the Daily Record.
“Who phoned the police and said — was being abused in this pic?” she wrote on Facebook, according to the Daily Record. Taking him for a spin?’.
“People in the town have been talking about it, because anyone who has seen it has been left shocked”.
Stewart expressed her dismay at the way she was being portrayed as a bad mother.
Speaking of the decision taken by someone who had seen the picture on Facebook to report it to police, she said: ‘I don’t know who reported it. I don’t really know why they would do that. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.
However, neighbours reported the incident to the police as they were concerned about the child’s safety.
The child was in her care when the photo was taken. So I was thankful in that way.
“Advice was given and the relevant checks were carried out”, he added, saying no evidence of any offence was found.
Local residents flew into a rage about the photograph and Ms Steward ended up allegedly being attacked on her doorstep for sharing the image.
One woman knocked on Stewart’s door and started beating the mom up when she answered.
“It happened right on my doorstep”.
“I got assaulted by a woman”.
It is understood that a 42-year-old woman was arrested over the alleged assault. She appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday and the case was continued without plea for a week.
