Matt Damon could be his top rival at the moment – he took home the Golden Globe for best actor in a comedy for space blockbuster “The Martian” – the other big victor on Sunday, with a victory for best comedy film.
Inarritu, whose “Birdman” swept the Oscars past year, also beat out “The Martian’s” Ridley Scott for the best director award.
Damon – who earlier in the night appeared withered by Gervais’ introduction as “the only person who Ben Affleck hasn’t been unfaithful to” – said the film’s success was a rare pleasure: “I’ve made a lot of movies that people just didn’t go see”. This was his first win in an acting category at the show. He went all out for the role, even eating raw bison liver for a scene. (And also for kissing Christian Slater when he came up to accept his well-deserved prize for Mr. Robot, which also won for Best TV Drama.) There were some hilarious comedy-duet presenters: Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence, America Ferrera and Eva Longoria, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt. Brie Larson won the Best Performance By An Actress In A Motion Picture – Drama for Room.

“Steve Jobs”, a controversial look at the late Apple co-founder that floundered at the box office despite warm reviews, took home Golden Globes for supporting actress Kate Winslet, and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin.
Foreign Language: “Son of Saul”.
Amazon’s “Mozart in the Jungle” won best comedy and Gael García Bernal won best comedic actor. Neither of the best actress winners were surprises, but whereas the Globes are like Little League, where everybody gets a trophy, the Oscars are like Gladiator: Two women enter, one woman leaves.
The 73rd Golden Globes opened on Sunday with Hollywood’s biggest names turning out for the glamorous event honoring the best in film and television.
Films screened at DIFF 2015 claimed top honours at the Golden Globe Awards this year. He had trouble reading his speech and his wife told him he needed his glasses. The award is bestowed by 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. It wasn’t a matter of feeling bad.
Washington’s movie roles have ranged from black activist Malcolm X, to a drunk but heroic pilot in “Flight” and a rogue detective in “Training Day” for which he won his second Oscar in 2002. There’s also talk that Vikander being nominated for best supporting actress is “category fraud”, being that she essentially plays an equal role to the film’s lead character.
