Suspect charged after woman, kids held hostage in standoff
Police say a woman and 11 children are now safe after being held hostage at a hotel in Georgia.
DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James said Tuesday that Thomas should have reported to prison in November to begin a 15-year sentence after he pleaded guilty last year to armed robbery and aggravated assault.
A 3-month-old baby is the youngest hostage, the television station reported, citing police.
When officers arrived, Thomas, armed with a knife, refused to come out of the hotel room or to release a woman and 11 children inside the room, Fore said.
Thomas was taken to a hospital. He said in an email that Williams has been charged with false report of a crime.
Korrie Thomas, 36, is facing charges of false imprisonment and obstruction.
The children were seen leaving with their mother and police said everyone will be questioned. Stovall says the children were attending school and living in the motel, but it’s not clear how long the family was there or how many rooms they used. Jail records didn’t list an attorney for Thomas.
SWAT members moved in to surround the building in tactical gear as police blocked off the roadway around the Inn.
A Special Weapons And Tactics, or SWAT, team has been called to the rite4us Inn & Suites near Interstate 20 and Wesley Chapel Road in the Decatur area.
