CES: Oculus Sets Pre-Order Price for Rift Virtual Reality Head Set
Of course, that’s assuming you’ve got a PC with enough horsepower to support the Oculus Rift.
Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg also said that it would take time for Oculus Rift to become popular.
On Tuesday, Oculus VR announced that backers of the original Kickstarter project would receive the new Oculus Rift for free, making thousands of people very happy.
The Oculus Rift is officially up for pre-sale starting today, and we now have a few details we didn’t have before. We also saw the Oculus Touch controller, which won’t be part of the first wave of Rifts to roll out to consumers. Oculus Touch controllers will come out after the launch.
When compared with other VR headsets priced by brands like Samsung (priced at $99), Lickey left a message on his Twitter “To reiterate, we are not making money on Rift hardware”. The initial pre-orders for the VR headset will begin on March 20 to 20 countries.
You can pre-order now, but you won’t be required to pay anything until the headset starts shipping. While they barely missed the target pre-order date, they seem to be on track to make good on their promise to ship the headsets in early 2016.
Oculus offers a selection of Oculus-ready PCs on its site, which are in the neighborhood of $1,000 each.
A compatibility tool is available for users to check if their current PC is VR ready. HTC’s Vive headset, and Sony’s PlayStation 4-powered PlayStation VR headset are both slated for the first half in 2016. You’ll also have access to Eve: Valkyrie, a multiplayer shooter.
