Floyd Mayweather’s next opponent may confirm a popular theory about his final
Khan admitted that he is unlikely to get the call to fight Mayweather as he has not received any updates from Al Haymon, who manages both his and Mayweather’s careers.
Mayweather-Berto on September 12th. In his last 6 fights he is 3-3 but is now on a two-fight win streak after beating Steve Upsher Chambers and Josesito Lopez.
Victor – who fought (and was beat by) Mayweather in 2011 – did have one suggestion for Floyd… drop Berto and swap him in instead.
It was reported that Mayweather has discussed these matters with his manager and officials say that we can expect his decision within the coming week.
Many fans feel that the fight didn’t live up to its name dubbed the “Fight of the Century”. Approaching 40 and having spent more than half of his life as a professional fighter, Floyd is understandably exhausted of it all.
“Mayweather might be taking the fight knowing this, thinking he can outmaneuver the heavy-handed Berto”. His fight against Pacquiao took so long to develop that Pacquiao was clearly on the back-end of his career by the time it came to fruition – a safe bet for Mayweather.
Berto told TMZ Sports, who broke the story, “It’s a pleasure and honor to be in this position and I’m looking forward to capitalizing on every moment of it”.
If successful, Mayweather will equal heavyweight Rocky Marciano’s record for undefeated fights. Make no mistake: Mayweather selected Berto because he wants to go out on top, not because he wants to go out defeating a top fighter.
A bigger obstacle to putting the fight on CBS, an industry source said, is determining how much advertising revenue can be hoarded for the fight on such short notice since that is where the income is generated.
It’s true that Floyd Mayweather couldn’t care less about what you think when it comes to his career choices.
“I just don’t see how he fights on pay-per-view after everyone’s talking about him fighting on free TV”, said an industry source.
